On 21st July, Reliance Jio launched its most awaited 4G VoLTE feature phone, Jio Phone. It create lots of confusion between users from the beginning. Let's clear all of them.
Q. Is that Jio Phone really free?
A. Technically YES. But, initially you have to pay Rs. 1500/- for the Jio Phone as a security fees. After using this phone for minimum duration of 3 years, you can return to get full refund. But, the main question is: are you able to keep it as it is for 3 years?
Q. Does a user need to recharge regularly for being eligible for a refund?
A. Yes. One has to recharge Jio Phone at least once in 90 days to be eligible for a refund.
Q. When you able to buy the Jio Phone?
A. Pre-bookings will starting from 24 August on My Jio app, Jio store and
jio.com. All users will get this phone on the basis of first come, first serve from September. But, beta tester will get it from 15th August.
Q. Does it Supports Dual Sim?
A. No, phone contains a single sim slot.
Q. Can Jio Phone user opt for Jio Prime?
A. By default, all user will be a Jio Prime member.
Q. Does it have Hotspot?
A. No. It will not come with Hotspot feature. But, It has hardware support and will be activated later by software updates.
Q. How many languages will Jio Phone support?
A. 22 Indian regional languages will be supported by Jio Phone.
Q. Does it have Android?
A. No, It integrated with KaiOS which is based on Firefox OS. You will get Facebook app, YouTube app, and all Jio apps from Kai app store, but whatsapp isn’t available yet for this phone.
Q. What about voice assistant?
A. Jio Phone use a customized voice assistant on KaiOS, which supports all the 22 regional languages including Hindi and English. Voice assistant will do the job as like a Google voice command. It doesn't have rich features like Google Assistant, Cortana or Siri.
Q. How much need to recharge on Jio Phone?
A. Jio announced that for this phone you will get plan for Rs. 153/- with unlimited calls, SMS and 500mb/day high speed data and after using 500MB you can use unlimited data in low speed. If you want 1GB high speed data daily so you can recharge for Rs. 309/-. They also introduce 2 sachet for recharge, 1st is for Rs. 24/- for 2 days & Rs. 54/- for 1 week.
Q. Will the 500mb data per day be enough?
A. Yes because the phone uses a 2.4 inch QVGA display whose resolution is
320×240 and so it will consume very fewer data compared to smartphones
of today.
Q. What is Jio TV Cable?
A. Jio Phone has a feature to enjoy Jio TV content on
our television. For doing this, you have to recharge an
amount of Rs. 309 and get the hardware using which we can connect our
phone to our TV’s with HDMI ports or A/V pins.
